SPI
Overview
The Scripture Passages Initiative (SPI) is a training program designed for seminaries, church and mission schools and like-minded educational entities that intend to engage in Bible translation, most especially among the Oral Majority. Together in partnership, the SPI training helps raise capacity and competency in Bible translation to forge commitment and collaboration of the local churches and national ministry leaders to advance Bible translation in obedience to the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Workshop
A SPI workshop lasts for three days of training on the following topics:
- The History of Bible Translation and Church Owned Bible Translation
- Forms of Bible Translation (Oral, Written, Deaf & Blind)
- Spiritual Impact Matrix
- Integrated Theory Training
- Bible Translation Tools (BTT) - BTT Writer, BTT Recorder, BTT Autographa,
- Bible Translation Quality Assurance
- Completion Planning
- Disciple Making Strategies
The goal of the workshop is to raise capacity and competency of the partnering churches and institutions so that they can multiply the workshop and equip their people to make available God’s Word in their heart language in line with the Great Commission.
Practicum
A SPI practicum is led by individuals who successfully completed a SPI workshop. They have identified a people group that does not have a Bible and wants one. They work with their church and the cooperation of other local church/es or institutions that work or intend to work among the Bibleless People Group (BPG). Using the Oral Bible Strategy, they find creative ways to start a Bible translation initiative whether one-on-one, or a small group Bible study. Through the LMS Helpdesk, Wycliffe Associates mobilizes assistance to ensure the success of the practicum.
